First time I got to take my Tamron 28-300mm out when it wasn't raining. For your comments...

Awwww, cute kitties.

Love the first one. The second one isn't bad, I just like the first one better.

Nap Time is awesome. hard to believe that peaceful looking beast could shred you to pieces and eat you in less time than it would take Oprah to scarf a bag of One-Bite-Brownies.

taken when Jimmythefish and I went to the zoo a few weeks back.

Nice pictures. I can't wait until I move this summer. There's not a lot of really cool places to take pictures in Southwest Wisconsin. The picture I want to take the most would get me harrased by the cops or my van wrecked. I want to park in the middle a major bridge across the Mississippi, with no breakdown lane.

nice shots, composition is great. however is it me or is that tamron 28-300 a tad unsharp?

Nice pictures awpollard. I'm just curious what the difference between the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Wild Animal Park is. Which one is better for taking pictures?

It's been almost two decades since I was at either of them, but I would say the zoo is better for pictures. Unless of course you know someone and can get "on the ground."

The Wild Animal Park is a huge park-like setting and the only way you can see the animals is on a moving tram.

At a zoo you can get right up to the pens.

The San Diego Zoo is your traditional type zoo, they are making more open open enclosures...but still rather tight quarters walk from pen to pen kind of thing. The Zoo has the polar bears and the Pandas the rest pretty much standard viewing.

The Wild Animal Park is more of an open area...Giraffes and Hoofed animals roam freely on acres of land. Many different areas and lots of walking. There is one whole section of plant life that is really cool that most don't ever see. Condors, Turkey buzzards and Hawks fly freely around the WAP.

One can't see either in one day.

I live smack dab between both but have ended up at the Animal Park more than the zoo...The Zoo is more touristy cause folks don't drive the 25 miles north to see the Wild Animal Park. Lions and Cheetahs, Giraffes and the likes are much better at the Wild Animal Park cause you can get up close...got a zoom ride the hour long tram (free) and you will come back with tons of pics. 90 bucks after admission and you can get in the back of a flatbed truck and animals will lick your lenses you are so close.

Both have their merits...but the zoo tends to have tons more people. I like getting animals pics closer to the environment in which they live they live.

If you are coming to San Dag there are packages offered where you can get entrance to both + plus legoland or seaworld (can't remember which) for quite a Savings.

Thanks for the reply Andy! I think I've been to both the the wild animal park and the zoo before, but I was really young so I don't really remember. I should go to the wild animal park some time. That giraffe shot is awesome by the way =)
