I am trying to explain to my sweety why next year I want to upgrade from my camera to a DSLR. My sweety keeps saying what will the DSLR do that your camera wont. I gave a list, but maybe you can add more.
Thanks in advance :-) |

Cost you a lot more money than you think. Ooops sorry not a good one. Expandable. You can do what I done to get approval from my wife on buying the Canon EOS 300D Rebel. I promised to sell my motorcycle.

LOL @ Beagleboy
Well, do you want one just for a hobby or do you plan on taking it further? If the latter, you could tell him about the quality of the prints and the profits you'd be making.
I would also ask him why he bought {insert last expensive "man toy" he bought here}...? Blackmail him. :-D :-D
Good luck.

Gosh, I wouldn't do anything so dramatic. Why not just by the camera and ask for forgiveness later ;o)
Seriously, I planned a vacation to Hawaii for my wife and I, then told her the Canon EOS 300D Rebel camera would be better for the trip so that we would have better pictures to remember by. It worked, but I still occasionally hear a mumble about my thousand dollar camera. |

You guys make me laugh!! :-)
How do I explain why you need different lenses, when the camera I use now only uses one lens? LOL My answer was that you can change the way a photo looks with different types of lens, the reply, you do that now! Ugh! :-) |

Tell the truth,
its your hobby, you feel you have learnt enough with your current camera and the artistic possibilities with a DSLR are endless, if he asks you to explain further, just mention apertures, shutter speeds, DOF, Bokeh and watch him glaze over.
If that fails just use the age old method all women do and cry, deny him a "bit of the other", get moody, generally make his life hell. Women are good at things like that.

Ask him how many pitchers get by with one pitch, how many football teams run every down, how many basketball teams win shooting nothing but 3-pointers ... that's approximately the same as the number of photographers who can capture an excellent image in any situation with a single lens. |

Well first off I would dump any guy who did not know that a DSLR is a must have item.
Having said that the main advantages are much lower noise, so you can shoot in lower light, and the fact that you can use longer lenses. At least this is the big advantage that I see.
Then if you get something like the 20D there is the fun factor.
