There's the normal benifits to any challenge. Learning how to light things better, composition, the fun of competition. Then there's the not so obvious benifits. Like learning to like what you see in the camera. :)
Today I saw for the first time why everyone I meet says, "wow you have blue eyes."
And you know what? They are indeed right. And it's a beautiful feature if I do say so myself. So today as you rush to finish a submission for self portrait- celibrate the number of times it takes you to find a feature that you really like in yourself. In my case, they eyes have it. :)

This one got me thinking outside the box, so far outside the box I am truly doomed, but I entered the shot anyway and I don't care; as far as I'm concerned it's a valid self-portrait of my "best side".

Other benefits:
1. Your subject is easy to find.
2. Guaranteed to be unique.
3. Always willing to shoot when you are ready.
Disadvantage:
1. Will insist on proofing all versions before you publish the final image. |

| all true but without a remote shutter release I can't get it (me) in focus |

Since I don't have any good lighting and flashes... for a good composition ... I'm always for thinking outside the box.... So, I'm just going to put a box on my head and shoot ;-) ... ha ha |

| I don't think I have a "best side" and hate pictures of myself, so I'm thinking outside the box as well. |

| I get to try out my new strobe light, even though i don't have a softbox yet, i was happy with what I was getting. |
