I just noticed that it has been a year and 2 days since entering my first challenge. It is kind of funny that earlier this morning I was out taking some pics for a lady of her horse . I shot off 2 256 cards and burned the images on to a disk for her right there at the barn on the lap top.At which time we had a look at the images, after the first three images she was handing me the money which was not a whole lot but it was money. But as the images continued on the screen I found my self watching her reaction to my pics of her horse,(which I did not think were all that great but they were ok)Now the expressions and the smile that this lady made were just priceless, talk about a great feeling for me.There is no way that I can describe it in words so I won't even try.
This would be the second time that I have had this feeling the first being when I gave the elderly women down at the duck pond a 8x10 glossy of a bird in her hand shot, I believe she had a tear in her eye,or maybe it was just the cold making her eye water ,but never the less I felt great .
When I read what I have just wrote it blows my mind to see how far I have came in a year, I can't believe it myself most of the time . I have to say that 95% of my knowledge today came from this site!
I would like to THANK YOU ALL for teaching me so much over the last year and making the year a fun one, and a expenseive one! But I sure have had one hell of time this past year.
Thank you ALL

Awesome post! That is really the reward for me too! The money is nice, but seeing parents expressions when I capture that one timeless moment is what its all about! I LOVE my job!
I didnt mean to steal your thread, but I need to say thank you to all the great people out there in DPC land. In just the last year, I too have begun to come into my own as a childrens portrait photographer, and I owe so much to this site!

I am pretty sure that was a tear in her eye. And now mine, too. Beautiful post and thoughts. I can't think of a single better reason to take pictures than the experiences you have described. I also know I wouldn't have had anywhere near the same year I've had without DPC and people like you!!

It'll mark a year for me next week, so I know how you feel. At this time last year, I never heard of the rule of thirds or bokeh. Now I'm all about photography. In the past week alone, someone contacted me to ask if they could use one of my DPC entries for a hospital fundraising brochure, another person hired me to take some product shots for print, three people have asked me for camera recommendations, I had a day-long photo shoot for Kimberly-Clark, and I met BradP in California for my third DPC get together. None of that would have been possible without the help and guidance of the people on this site. Thank YOU!
Oh... and one of the SC members just paid me a huge compliment. Whatta' great site!
