Hello Everyone. I am buying myself a new camera and I believe it is going to be the Canon EOS 20D. I was just wondering what everyone else thought about this camera.

Thanks,
Ben

IMO, the best camera for the money. I have no regrets. Just make sure you get yourself good glass to go with it. Here is an excellent review of the camera:

Canon EOS 20D

Search the forums, there have been so many discussions on this camera. You're bound to find all types of opinions, the majority are favorable. The negative ones will probably come from NIKON owners....lol

I wish my 20D had the self-cleaning sensor feature that the Olympus DSLRs have.

My thoughts on your gear:
any tripod is better than nothing - i have a $10 one. But i think you 9and one day me) will get a good one.
batteries - 3 +1 in the kit - overkill. 2 maybe is all you need.
a way to carry it all -good idea.
2Gb microdrive - 2 1gb CF cards would have been better or even 4 512s. CF card is more rugged than a drive, multiple cards mean more failsafe and more versatility.
The FL filter? for what, or was it part of a kit?
Only one UV filter? Generally you put these on every lens for protection.
the two sigma lenses - i think these are the two in a box 'kit' - i have not read reiews, but they be very cheap. Something to play with, not much investetd i suppose. The sigma 70-300 APO II for around $210 is very good. I went with the cheap tamron 28-80 ($70). My thought was it takes a 58mm filter, and so does the canon lens i was looking at...but i am going to go with cokin P filters so that matters not now.
the PL is a circular PL i hope.

No flash? The sigma DG super 2 is about $200 and i hear very good.
What, no canon 50mm 1.8? At only $75 this is one of the must haves! Almost L glass.

Ok, now you hate me. Sorry. You got a 20D, me a rebel, so i hate you too ;)

Prof Fate, I'd like to commend you for the wonderfully comprehensive answer you gave to SnapperL's question.
It was great of you to give it that much thought and time.

Prof Fate,
Yes, indeed. Thank you very much for your indepth answer. I am going to contact the company on monday morning and see if it is possible to change the lens in the kit with some that I would probably rather have. I had not done this in the beginning because of the cost difference. I will also do some further reading on the Sigma lens and see what others are saying about them. Again, thanks for your response.

Allow me to retort:

I bought 2 batteries not 3. One with the camera and one with the kit.

From what I have read now and before I bought the lens, they are very descent for the money. I am new to DSLRs, so I am sure they will keep my interest for quite a while.

Well, I also have a 10 dollar stand. It folds up small enough to fit in my bag. This is great for space saving but not so good for getting a very still image if need be. So with that being said, the "TR-58 58 Inch Tripod" is a descent step up for me.

As far as the flash goes. I want to get a descent one however, with my budget having already been blown about 500 dollars ago, it is something that is going to have to wait....

Sorry for the diatribe.
Ben
