I just got my new Laptop today and it has a 15â XGA-TFT Active Matrix Screen. My question is what is the best way to calibrate the monitor? I have heard a lot of users talk about the difference in how the pictures look between a CRT and LCD. On this laptop the pictures seems flat in color but nice crisp sharpness.

Many laptop screen can't be calibrated. I good place to start would be adjusting your brightness and contrast so you can see all the squares at the bottom of the DPC voting pages.

Are you looking for a hardware solution?

You could always get a CRT monitor to edit your photos.

Yep, that's exactly what I would do. I had an IBM T23 which had an XGA (1024x768) screen, and hated it for editing, both because of the limited resolution and the fact that gamma changed so dramatically with viewing angle.
I quit editing anything on the LCD screen, I used a 17" CRT running at 1280x1024 resolution and 32-bit color depth.
