Hi friends,
In our last thread we all decided to go out for night shooting in February in Hollywood. I wanted to post some info about this meet-up:
Date: 2/20/05 Sunday (Holiday Weekend with Monday off work for most)
Time: 3:00 PM
Location 1: Glendale (PM me for address & directions to my place). We will carpool to Hollywood to save money on parking.
Time 3:30 PM
Location 2: 5 Star Parking at 1718 N Cherokee Avenue, Hollywood (pretty cheap)!
Just North of Hollywood Blvd on Cherokee (323) 957-9211
Map: //www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&address=1718+N+Cherokee+Avenue&city=HOllywood&state=ca&zipcode=
We'll walk up Hollywood, getting photos at the Mann's Theater & surrounding areas, stay there through 5:30 PM or so til the sun is down and we can get some lights!
We'll then have some dinner, then head over to Sunset Strip for some more night photography. We can carpool from Cherokee, leaving most of our cars in this garage because it's very inexpensive!
We'll end the night after we are all tired.
If anyone who wants to carpool has any 'end time' requirements, let us know by posting here.
Since it's a holiday weekend, many people will be out doing touristy things on Sunday, so we should be able to capture some human activity!!!

Hey folks.
Again Im going to try to sneak down there to meet you guys. I tried early in the month but work prevented me from leaving. I have done some really cool night shooting in the past down in hollywood. I just completed a night shoot down in san francisco around 2'oclock in the morning and got some really cool shots. San francisco takes on a whole new dimension after midnight although you do need to be careful. I'll continue to montior this thread for more details. |

I'll be there, and as my camera addiction grows, I'll have the battery grip as well, so I can try that out. he he.

I just saw this thread. I'll try and make it. I'm going to try and drag my wife along but she might get bored so I'll probably meet you at your house and then follow you. I'll PM you for directions.

I'm a big maybe... not really sure if I will be free for this one. Besides, still have no tripod or shutter release for night shots :(

Chuck,
I understand if your schedule conflicts, but I've a cheapie tripod you can borrow if you like and I've a wireless shutter release that you can use, although I didn't need one night shooting in Pasadena. I got it anyway.

Hollyweird is a great walking, living, breathing picture opportunity!

Greg, I will be out for lunch with my family til 2:30pm, then flying home to meet up in Glendale so if I am not there at 2:45pm, wait for me. I will be there by 3pm!
Sandman, if you get dropped off closer to the Mann's, just wait there and we'll meet up with you. No reason to walk down to the garage to meet us. Not much to see there. PM me with your cell if you haven't done so already so I can call you when we get there :)

Does anyone have flashlights (powerful ones) and gels? We could really have some fun with night photography if we could 'paint' with light too!

I have a 6 D cell Maglight, the most powerful maglight, but no gels.

Hmm, that could be pretty cool if it's not to heavy to lug around.
Still, we'd need some fun gels or it wouldn't really be worth it, in my opin.

I could bring it along, but I think they now consider anything longer than 4 cells a weapon, since it's a big batton that is close to 2 feet.

not sure it would be worth it. I don't know if there are anyplace where in Hollywood or Sunset where we could light things without people getting upset or the weirdo's or the cops stopping by to see what's going on. Oh just got the RC 1 remote today. Man, this thing is small, but can't wait to try it out. I think my battery grip and my Tamron backpack should be here before the outing as well. It's got a strap for the tripod so I can just attach it to the bag. A nice feature as I found out from Pasadena outing.
If you are really interested in playing with color, you can also replace a color for another color in PS.

I checked out the gallery, did they use a blue gel? A place where it is quiet and you can set up and light is probably a better idea. I think you'd need a flood light or something that big to light up a side of a building.
