Hi Guys
I am about to take on a job were i will be asking to photography a UFC type event in Dublins Point Venue called, Bushido Rings.

Event will be from 8pm to around 11pm, just wondering what should i charge for time and if as expected after a call they want to purchase and use my pics should I charge for the pics i take?

I expect around 300 pictures to be taken?

any help???

Thanks

OK i was having a quick look around and think of charging 200euros for the time at the venue but am unsure of the price of the proofs? factoring in the PC work in edits etc. any ideas on this???

300 pictures?? Sounds like a lot for only 3hrs! But I digress. For 3 hours of my time alone for something like that (UFC-like, not the actual UFC I'm assuming???) I'd charge $150CND per hour. Then, since I hate doing prints, $300 for the negatives.. or round abouts.

300 is a lot i was going to picture all fighters on high speed so i thinking up in those number, i could just say what i ever i take is yours for x

300 euros is what i was thinking for the pictures on a Cd rom without any work, if he wants these touched up then maybe 500?

Never sell your raw work. That's my main advice. I always thought that but then it was solidified when I met a world-reknowned touch-up artist. She said no self-respecting photographer would let clients SEE their raw work let alone sell it to them. Personally I stick to that.

How do you meet so many famous people?

She just so happened to be very good friends with the photographer who taught my lighting course and she did a presentation for us. I can't remember her name (it's french) but she touches up work for the best photographers in North America..she said the more famous a photographer: the more touch-ups they require. She's spent 30 hours on a single photo. Interesting!

You just seem to frequently mention how you know the top-notch this or famous that...I was wondering how you happened to come into contact with famous people so often.

If i spent 30 hours on a single photo doing touch ups i could make a badly shot picture of a pig a cover for Glamour magazine!

Perhaps the 'best' are the 'best' cause only their best shots are ever seen, if you know what i mean.

What specifically do they want? Shots of action (i have no idea what UFC is BTW) or publicity or news coverage or ?? Knowing what they want or expect is 1/2 the job in most cases. Ask how many they want ("10 good pics" or some such might be their answer). Now you can take the shots and prep (PP) 20 or 30 for their selection of 10.
How do they want their proofs? (4x6, 5x7, on CD, on the net, etc) That would have an impact on how you edit them as well as what you might charge (300 pics on the net is free, 25 cents on a CD, but big bucks if printed.) How do they want the final images? Probably digital for printing, right? Depending on how they eventually print them wil affect how they are edited (levels, sharpening, etc). Most likely the printer will edit your pics for the output device (RGB jpg will become CMYK TIF image at least).
You might want to think about the 'control' you have over the final image. I was in priting, and to 'flip' and crop an image was a no-brainer, but i was not working with a photographer who owned their own shots, so my edits were not a concern.
