I withdrew my entry for Road Signs after realising that it was only basic editing permitted. It was a real shame, as I so was pleased with my photo, and had received a lot of good comments on it, and it was doing very well in the challenge.
The editing that I did was only to patch out a black spot from the sky, which it turns out was caused by debris on the CCD of my D100, as it appeared on all my shots that day, irrespective of lens. I may post a copy with the spot in place to judge just how much it would have penalised the image, but of course it was too late by then.
As soon as I realised that I'd broken the rules I requested an admin note, which, as I thought got me DQed. Still pretty gutted that the rules don't allow for removal of imperfections like that, as it was not in any way designed to enhance the photo, but rules are rules I guess.
Apologies to everyone for messing you about, but thankyou for the comments.

Unlucky break that. It's a great picture. Well done for doing the right thing though.

what a pity, isn't it always the way when you think you've got it right !! Keep at, I'm sure your success is just around the corner. Hadn't voted on it but would've scored it highly :-) |

I was looking for this photo in the results. It was one of my picks for blue.
Its a real shame when this happens, but I think you did the right thing. It would have been worse to actually have the blue and then be DQ'd.

Great photo...
You are to be commended for doing the right thing. It is easy to justify the wrong course of action, but I admire your courage and integrity for making the right choice.
I am sure you will do well in future challenges.

Thanks all,
Was a pretty tough decision, but would rather it was taken out the contest before the results had come out, than after as it would likely have stirred things up :)
For those who had commented on the sky in the photo, it was actually taken at about 10pm in what appeared to be complete darkness. My friend Jon used the lights on his motorbike to illuminate the hedge for about a second, which just showed up the texture of the grass and hedge a little, and made the signs stand out. The hard bit was timing it (30 sec exp) so that only one car passed in the one direction - oncoming traffic lights totally wrecked the photo as they looked directly at the camera for too long.
I'm off somewhere nice for the weekend, so very pleased about the bridge challenge, can't believe the timing is so good.

Thanks for being so straightforward about the situation. Your honesty is commendable.
