If so are they any good, and where can I find one?

Its a pen that plugs into your pc. You use it the same as a mouse. It just seems to me as an artist I would be able to use it a bit more accuratly than a mouse when it comes to touch up work or for drawing images on photo shop.. I used to have one about 10 years ago with my apple 2 pc. I have heard mention of them but I have never actualy sen one since.

Intuos (spelling???) makes the most common one I think. I have their Graphire 3. If no one else jumps in here and gives you a better answer, then try searching this site or Google - you will find the company's home and it sold many places. It really doesn't work for me because I write with my left hand, but do everything else with my right - including a mouse.
WACOM - go there. That's what I wasn't remembering.

Light pens are different than input tablets like the intuous because you write on screen. I think light pens are an old technology anyway, since they are called such because the pen sensed the scan line on the CRT and that's how it detected location. There are now other screen types that let you write on them, usually capacitance based I think.
Most of them are now incorporated into laptops, and moreover, what are now called a tablet, or pen computing. I have one of those, a convertible Gateway laptop (which is great). However, I don't believe it's pressure sensitive, and I think that's true of most of these except perhap a couple, so they are not directed at artists. Other mfrs,: Fujitsu, Motion, Compaq (the 1100), ...
There are still some expensive, specialized displays which you can use with your desktop that are pen based. I don't recall the product mfr but I'm sure you can find them on the web. |
