Most will agree that we have beat this horse to death (sorry KDO for the cliche). My take on it is that the majority of regulars here don't think too much of the royalty free internet stock photo businesses that are springing up, and that's fine. This thread is for the minority of us who think differently. I need a bit of advice and input on building a portfolio.
Here are my latest two uploads, and they are typical of the small portfolio I have built in the past 2 months, with fair success. It seems to me, though, that the most downloaded photos are of people. Has anyone here posted many people pics? Have you hired models, or used family and friends as models? I have considered offering to take portraits of the families of friends in exchange for an hour or so of stock photo modelling... anyone have any thoughts about such a suggestion?
As for these two photos, the Golden Retriever shot has a sad story attached. Molly belongs to Becky, a friend at work. Becky learned about a month ago that Molly, who is 9, has a terminal heart tumor and isn't expected to live very long at all. I took several pictures of Becky, along with Molly and Maggie (a poodle), earlier this week, just for her to have.
The snow shot was taken Thursday afternoon during my commute from Leesburg, VA to my home in Winchester, VA. Normally a 1 hour drive, on Thursday it took over two hours. This shot was taken during a 15-minute standstill while a fender bender ahead was cleared |
