Frankly, I'm blown away. I literally submitted mine in the last 10 seconds, and it's opened better than all but one of my previous entries.

...and I thought I'd get hammered. Ah well, it's still pretty early. :)

hehe...I'm incredibly curious whether there's any pink in my photo at all! I'd love to think that the pink in my photo is a very subtle but important element of the photograph, but I'm second-guessing that the pinkness is even there!

My score continues a downward slide....

I shoulda (woulda, coulda) used one of these out takes...

This is my sixth challenge. I've done better, but I taught myself several new techniques in PhotoShop for this challenge so I'm sure I'll get better with practice.

My score is hovering about 5.6, really nerve racking and exciting. Got to stop refreshing every minute!

I had a great idea for Pink, but I don't know any burly fat construction workers that would be willing to let me photograph them wearing a pink ballet tutu and leotard. :)

So, I went with my second idea, and it's a flop as usual. Although, one kind person did select it as a favorite and that makes me feel a lot better.

I don't think 5.7xxx is really that much of a flop...

Well then you have no one to blame but yourself do you?

It has been said before that if you wish to do well here your entry should be as blunt as a bat to the back of the head. Subtelty has no place where your entry gets about one second to be absorbed and judged before the viewer moves on. Remember many people are using slow connections so they vote based on the thumbnail, never waiting for the full majesty of a 640 pixel image. It is hard to deliver subtelty and impact in a 120 pixel image.

I've lost all confidence in the voting on this site. I truely think quite a few people give low scores to the better photos.

Or is it just me?

I had the same problem. In fact, I thought my monitor must have been miscalibrated, so I viewed a few challenge entries on my husband's computer, and then also on our laptop. It's a shame about the oranges and reds because several of them are outstanding shots. If the authors of those shots had just adjusted the colors a bit...

Wellll, was up to 5.444 but seems to be steadily declining! My first challenge, but hey, here's hoping!

Donno about the scores. My picture has now started going up and down, as if I'm only getting 10s and 2s.
but one thing is sure: I have just received the most motivating comment ever! I can hardly hold myself from thanking the person who sent it! but I will act as a big girl and control myself until the voting is over. In the meantime, let me just say thank you thank you thank you, for a wonderful and encouraging comment! I really do appreciate it!!

Do me a favour and comment if this is the case, Robert and Judith...I'm thinking that my photo is suffering from being the wrong colour (most of the photo is orange, and pink is definitely not the most dominant hue, although it is in the section of the photograph which I find the most striking)...I'm getting no comments and an absolute crap score.

Oh, and I didn't adjust the colours at all on my photo...

Jinjit,

You're welcome :-)

(all my comments have been encouraging thus far, so maybe it's me...)

Cloudy,

I've declared a personal moratorium on negative challenge comments. Whenever I start making them I get outraged responses flooding my mailbox. Since I have no way of knowing which image is yours, I'm not gonna open that can of worms again. Feel free to direct me to the image after voting closes and I'll be happy to comment on the "pinkness" of it.

um...sucks to my assmar, I guess.

these challenges never make me feel fuzzy inside...to be fair, i haven't been shooting specifically for a challenge since the complexity challenge in september. All of my entries have been from available photos...but still, I thought a few of them were a good fit!

I think my image is slightly drifting to a peachy rather than brilliant pink. sitting at mid 5s but no comments yet.
There are many images that are stretching the colour a little, but I am voting on the photograph quality also, there are oodles of different pinks so I for one am not voting em down on colour alone.

Do people really vote based on Thumbnail alone!?! That's shocking to me! There's no possible way to accurately cast a deserving vote based on a thumbnail alone. It just can't be done. It shouldn't even be possible to physically vote based on thumbnail alone.... Geeesh!!!

(OK, I'm done venting now) :-)

~LOL~
Ahhhhhhh I have a feeling someone is going to have to work extra hard today ;-) I still did not receive any comment from you!!!
Am waiting patiently...

but I agree. Your comments are encouraging and helpful, even if I don't always agree with you on them.

It really isn't possible, yet I can imagine someone not actually looking at the image to vote...

That's bollocks mate, there is always a place for subtlety.

Full majesty! Yes, that sounds like one of my pictures, I like it.

I agree, but then the 'system' should not allow a vote until the full image has been viewed.

Now you are onto something here, NO Vote until full image loads make sense to me. I think you should be putting that into a WebSite Suggestion forum. I don't think anyone should vote without seeing the whole image.

Sorry Four Bears, no offense meant, I posted what I thought was my best shot ever submitted here, for this challenge, full of texture and rich reflected light. While I despise the color pink, this is among my favorite shots I have ever printed, so I was jazzed to see the first votes come in and.... sigh.

My wife said that I should do something to get the subject to pop off the background and I said no it would loose the richness and subtlety.
My comments to you were made in full rant mode with sarcasm used as a shield to blunt the sting of getting it wrong again.
