Problem: When viewing your submission comments, there's no easy way to reply to a particular comment because you have click the user, then click his "Private Message" link. The bigger problem is, most users don't quote the comment they are replying to so the person who receives a reply has no idea which comment/picture they are talking about. Makes it very hard to reply accurately and quickly.
Solution: Add a "Reply" link next to each comment made by users for everyone's submissions. It would look like this (right next to "This comment was helpful"):
Reply: Private Message, Email
The word "reply" would be just static text, but the "Private Message" would be a link and so would "Email" (if their email is not private).
Then when replying, the page would automatically quote the comment for the user so all they have to do is type in their reply text and send it. Fixes both problems I mentioned above. :)

More....
The page would also quote the Picture Title. Something like this:
Picture: "Emu Egg"
"I really love your picture, but the color is bad..."
I'm sure you have more important suggestions/projects, but this would make the interaction between users much better, which is important to the site as a whole. |

According to the spirit of the rules, this would be a bad bad thing to do. I don't mind if a few people wrote to me during the challenge to coorect something I've said in a comment, but this way.. gawd, everybody would be writing to us all, and we might as well put our names under the pictures and make it a known user contest. you see what I"m trying to say?
I don't mind having to go through the persons user page. I get to see what they have done recently :)

I have been suggesting this for months, but for after the voting is over. I'd like to go back and reply to every comment (sure to encourage people to leave more), and it's not necessary to go through the profile page every single time.
If the comment is from someone you don't know or haven't checked in on in a while, you're always free to go through the profile page just like now, but the shortcut option would be nice.
Likewise, having a similar link in forum posts would allow easier interpersonal communications when it becomes appropriate to take it out of the forum... |

Yeah maybe you're right. It might be annoying to get a whole bunch of replies all the time. General, maybe adding this option for after the challenge would be better. It's kind of a toss-up, do you make it easier for the replies to be "recognized" (because they have the quoted stuff I mentioned), or is it better to discourage too many replies.
OK forget this suggestion for now! 8^D

That's what I meant -- the email links would only appear on the photo's page after the challenge is concluded. During the voting you can still do it the "regular" way (like now)...
