Can someone tell me about print sizes. I know standard sizes like 4 x 6, 5 x 7 , 8 x 10 but what does the sizes A3 A4 and these type sizes actually mean.

Those are European business paper sizes, like the US letter, legal, and tabloid sizes. I'm not familiar with their use as sizes for photographic prints.

All measurements in inches:
A3 = 11.694 x 16.542
A4 = 8.268 x 11.693
A5 = 5.883 x 8.264

Starting with A5, each sheet is double the size ...

There is also a "B" series of sizes, but I'm too lazy to go look them up right now ...

Yes, we use A and B size paper in Australia - we used to have foolscap, quarto and other "pre-decimal" sizes. We use A and B size paper in Japan, too.

To my knowledge, the whole world, with the exception of the USA and Canada, utilize these sizes.
