My husband and I ended up wandering around a large cemetery and mortuary (I apologize for not knowing all the right terms for the various types of places) recently and we found ourselves quite absorbed with the lives and history surrounding us. There is also a unique peace found there, we felt. This is a quick treatment of one of the pictures I took there that day and would like to see if anyone thinks it has potential or not. I tossed most of my shots from that day, but this one kind of stayed on my mind. Thank you.

I like it. The angle works for me. Nice & sharp. The blur on the edges happens a little too abruptly for my taste. Not sure there's anything you can do about that, though. Is that b&w, or just desaturated?

Thanks. I am thinking the blur is too abrupt also, now. That was from a quick PS action I tried, otherwise just played with B & W, Sepia, levels, curves, all the usual! LOL

I think that's a
========================== from dictionary.com ================
col·um·bar·i·um
n. pl. col·um·bar·i·a (--) also col·um·bar·ies

1. A vault with niches for urns containing ashes of the dead.
2. One of the niches in such a vault.
===============================================================
A mortuary is where the dead are prepared for the funeral. A mausoleum is where remains are entombed in an above-ground structure instead of buried; a crypt is much the same but usually built below ground-level.

Personally I'd probably have tried to change the framing/cropping to include the dates on the bottom row, perhaps at the expense of seeing the top row at all, but maybe that's coming from a more documentarian than artistic perspective. Nice lighting, exposure, detail.

Thank you. I need to learn these. I would like to do more work like this and I always like to use the proper terminology. It's the old English and Philosophy teacher in me!

You're welcome, but do double-check all references. I often sound like I know everything, but sometimes I really don't .... : )
