This is one of the images from my 'practive' session with Katie. I was fairly happy with the color image, but I wanted a B&W to go with some other B&W shots from this series. I tried to get a wide range of tones on Katie's face while keeping with the mood created by the sunlight filtering through the window to the left of the frame. Did I let this go too dark on the left side of Katie's face (left of frame). Of course any othe comments are welcome.
 
Window light filtered through a thin curtain to the left of frame and a white reflector to the right for fill.

hey
i of course dont know what i am talking about but i like the colour one. I usually like B&w but i think she has great skin tone and she looks lovely in colour. |

I enjoy the Color one more.. the B&W does seem a bit dark to me. However, I think you should consider cropping at her waist. The wrinkles on her shirt are distracting and also make her appear larger than i'm sure she is.. Know what i mean?

David,
I don't think you did ("let this go too dark"). I like the color version better (she seems to exude a look that works better in the warm colors than the starker tones of black & whites) but the black and white version is a well done conversion. In the B&W I would dodge out the crescent just below each eye; on my monitor there is a noticeable curve of darkness that one pass at 2% against Shadow would probably clean right up.
Very nice shot.

I also like the color. I think all the brown tones look great. Her eyes and her skin are beautiful in the color.

They're both fine, each has its own plusses. A tighter crop, as noted below, would be more flattering. Also, for me, the position of her right arm is very artificial looking; as if the elbow is floating in air. Even if it's actually ON the cushion, it doesn't look like it.
Nice tones in both, anyway.

| She certainly is a lovely model! The lighting here is so nice, but I agree that the pose, while not too bad, could be made better. The arm does appear just a little too posed and the angle of the legs in front don't add anything to the shot IMO. The tones and expression are both very flattering and well done. |

Ya, I was having a hard time with that arm too. Her arm was resting on the chair because the silly thing had such a short back. I caught another one without the arm extended, but I think it suffered from some problems as well. I'll post it up here for comparison.... no post processing besides resizing, just giving the option to point out that I picked the wrong image.
