Did anyone see the Grey Owls in National Geographic? What beautiful shots! These are awesome too. I live in Northern California and am not used to seeing Owls at all.
What Equipment did you use on your Rebel? How far were you from the owl?

Thanks Daniel.I am using a 70-300mm Sigma f4-5.6, some Owls you can get within 15 feet, others double that! I think I would do much better with L glass but I can`t really afford that right now! |

A local news station (Kare 11, Minnesota) did a news story last night on the Great Grey Owl regarding their migration to find food. Check out this video clip of the story. Owls are so cool!

Thats a great clip. They fly so low and are so intent on catching prey that automobiles are their downfall! We have at least 9 living in Ottawa`s bird rehab also, I know at least 7 Great greys could not be saved and died.

My turn.... Owls spotted in the East end, Rockcliffe parkway area near St.Joseph Blvd in Orleans.
All uncropped except the last which was cropped to straighten. All shot with the 28-135 IS USM lens.

How would the L Glass help your photos? I am fairly new to photography so I was just wondering....

Thanks Yanik
That particular Owl did not move out of its tree for over half an hour today!@#$& You sure have to be patient. They really become active at dusk, most times to late for decent flight shots! |

Ya, I went at dusk today but they always flew away from me and the focus on the 80-400mm isn't the fastest.... :-(
