Figured I'd make a place for everyone who was in attendance today to post up their shots.

Here's one of the entire group...
another of the same room...
And then afterwards, we headed out to freeze and take a few shots of the city...
More are on the way, those were just the first three I wanted to post.

Jesus christ! I can't believe you posted a topic on this already! You're quick man. I'll probably have my shots up in a week or two, maybe a month from now. lol.
I got an offroading club meeting later tonight at the bar. Right now, I'm gonna go remove those stupid ass mudflaps (they scraped a lot at houston). Then I'll post a few photos from today. |

heh...Actually, I don't think any of my pictures came out that great of today for some reason. Oh well, here's a few I think that looked the best.
This bird was just standing there and was nice.
This bird was very mean and even attacked mike (lykofos) when his flash went off too close to him. I tried to get a picture of his face, but it was too late because I was running myself.
An owl -- The lines are from the cage -- I can't get rid of them for the life of me in PS...
And this one is a white something african bird that the lady who worked there was holding. She said it was mean to people who it didn't know and I wasn't about to find out...

Here's one that should be approved to sell prints of...
I'm trying to put a larger copy on pbase, but apparently, pbase isn't working at the moment.
EDIT: ok and one more -- sometimes I get carried away -- time to go watch a movie.

It was nice to see Mike (lykofos) and Chris (prof_fate) again, and it was really nice meeting the rest of the gang this morning! While everyone else was taking photos of birds, I was taking photos of people taking photos of birds. :)
Here are a few of my random shots. I would like to say that we'll all keep Mike in our prayers after his ear was lopped off by an angry bird after he provoked it to the point where it couldn't take it any more. We were all pretty traumatized, but I'm confident it will grow back.
I'd like to title this first shot, "If I Could Do This, I'd Never Leave The House" --

Nothin' wrong with those shots, Justin... very nice! And you should add to your list of things we learned today: "Justin has the coolest car of the Pittsburgh DPC'ers!" |

Autumncat... I was looking through your portfolio and I was surprised to see the "Pier" shot. I know *exactly* where that is -- Seaport Village! I have a shot just like that from last summer! |

;-p
Thanks for the invite. A visit to Pittsburgh would have to take a bit of planning (we're in the York area now) - we can't travel much these days. Went to school at Cal U and hubby is from Butler. But I would really love to visit with my digital.
Would love to see your version of the Pier. Seaport Village - yeah, that sounds very familiar. It was a cute little area a short walk from our hotel. San Diego was beautiful!

We spent a little time there when we returned from a cruise. We dropped our luggage off at the airport, and wandered around at Seaport Village for a bit before we had to catch the plane... cool place!

OK So I'm still bored...I made a panorama out of 5 shots...
Here's a small version...
small
and a slightly bigger version...
medium
The original is like 2,000 pixels in height and really long -- it's almost annoying to look at it in that form. That was stitched together with PhotoStitch that came with my rebel. It worked pretty well. There were a few lines to 'clean up' in photoshop.

Justin - my flash is a $23 ebay item..not TTL of any kind. I was at the aviary once before - experience counts alot there, flash wise. I have a few shots at ISO800 too. And regarding my 'name', see The Great Race
Dave...I took some shots to make a panorama out of...how is that program for stitching?
Here are a few more...first some bird shots:

I tried Brians mongo-lens...here is the helicopter (Canon 70-200 IS @ 148mm)
And a few of Pittsburgh from the Overlook

And of course, the obligatory snapshot

The baby owl? Not the best job of focusing - i wanted to crop it tighter, but the eyes are not as sharp as i'd like and the little birdie overall is quite OOF. The background is as shot, but looks very painterly or something. Too much USM makes it look very processed.
I don't like any of my eagle ones this year.
is from last year with my Fuji. My best shot from that trip. This year maybe 10-15% of my shots are presentable. I BIG improvement, so either i am getting better or not shooting enough ;)
As for the Movie ref, of us 7 i thik 5 had never heard of it. As for 'prophet', interesting take...perhaps prophet of doom.
In the free PG i got at teh Aviary there is an article on a photography exibit at the Warhol. Jack Mitchell is the artist. Over 35 years and only 130 or so images. Only the homeruns count i suppose.
