It may sound crazy, but through all of my years with a camera in my hand I have never really sat down and concentrated on capturing myself? I didnt even enter the self portrait contests. Shooting yourself is tough, and really Will open your eyes.I know that the lighting aint great, and I look much better behind the camera, but I was bored. I am sure that most of you have done these already...but It is an eye opener! Although, I am sure that Gracie will appreciate them some day. The marlboro's and alcohol will catch up to you! Just thought I would share, and feel free to show your eye opening self portraits.

I was thinking about trying this a few days ago...
I can see plainly that you were going for something in those shots. You captured at least some degree of character in them, which is an accomplishment. Besides being incredibly busy, I haven't done it yet because I can't imagine how to go about it. Creating an image of someone else is about what you see in them from the outside. Capturing yourself is such an intimate excercise that I find it intimidating.
Kudos to you for having the courage to embark on the journey, and the skill to see it through.

I think you did a fantastic job with these. And, yes, she will treasure them.

I appreciate all your comments. It it weird because we can look at ourselves in a mirror, and not see ourselves. I think it scary to bring it down to 2 dimensions.

WOW... I can't believe how OLD you look!
(hehehe, just me thinking out loud at my own attempt at a self portrait).
These look great Brian! Good color and light/shadow, I like the one with your hand, but it's covering too much of your face.
Me, I tried everything, mine looked best with the hand covering the face.... I gave up.

One the things that make it wierd is the fact that looking in the mirror (the only way most of us see ourselves) is reversed from what everybody else sees. That is why portraits (self or otherwise) seldom get the response "That looks just like me!"
Perhaps reversing them would be a bit less scary?
My best self portrait is in my profile.
