I am looking for a new tripod. I was wondering if anyone had any advice of what might work best for what I am doing. I own a Gitzo G2220 for my macro and general photography and I couldn't ask for an easier to use, more stable tripod. I also have a Slik Pro 700 DX for my tele photography and this is what I would like to replace.

The 700 is a well built stable tripod rated at 15 lbs. I should say over-rated at 15 lbs because even though it is a stable tripod with a camera and 200mm lens it is anything but stable at near it's rating. I get a lot of shake when this tripod's legs are extended.

I'm using a 600 f/4 with the 1Ds mounted on a Kirk Cobra gimbal head. I need a tripod that will rise to at least 60" without extending the column. It must be rated at over 15 lbs, be made of aluminum or fiber, have a rapid column, and be under $500.

The Gitzo G-1320 Studex Mk2 looks like it may fit the bill and at only $330. Maybe there is something else that may be better suited.

Any ideas or imput will be helpful. Thank you.

I use an older Gitzo Studex for almost everything. It gets heavy pretty early in the day, but it is built like a rock. I got mine on ebay used for $125USD. Good choice.
