I took this afternoon and was looking for suggestions. What recommendations could improve this photograph? Is the contrast ok? I really like how it cropped.

Here's the original for comparison:

P.S. ... ok ... honestly, I really just wanted to show it to someone. But feedback is humbly requested.

I'm not sure it was a perfect opportunity for a photo. The branches and wall are a little distracting. I can't really tell what's going on, the angle kind of puts one of the statues backs to the camera blocking the view. I don't really know what you could do with this picture. Make it a high contrast black and white, may look more interesting.

Keep shootin'

William, I'm sorry to burst your bubble about the crop - I don't like it all that much :-(
As soon as I looked at it, I wondered about the parts that were cropped off. I was very glad you included the original - it gave me the whole picture.

Now to the original: is there a way of taking that photo a little more from the front? In my opinion, seeing it directly from the side is not as successful as a more diagonal view would be (easier to see the figures and less distracting branches).

There are many things I really like about the photo:
the gentle, muted colors; the shadows vs the sunny spots; the way the snow collected in the basket/bowl.

OK. This is useful.

No, currently there is no way to take a picture from the front without trudging through two feet of snow in my dress work slacks and shoes (decided against doing that today).

I had played around with the black/white version of the photo,

but felt that it flattened the contrast compared to the color. (Although I was worried that I had gone a little too far into the red on the color image.)

I chose that cropping because I felt it drew attention to the female in the back as opposed to the other three.

I didn't mind the branches as I felt it helped frame the scene. Could this be a bad habit? Check out my Winter Ivy for branches against walls. lol

But I can see that 75 views and only 2 responses, I'll have to take another look at what I like about this picture and why and hopefully express it better. Thanks.

Edited to add: Of course, more critism is welcome. Thank you.
