I have a picture in the challenge which may be questioned for proof. I am leaving for 8 days for vacation and I will not have any access to any computer. Can I send original right now just in case?

I did this a few weeks back. Just send it with a note to one of the Site Council.
edit: and make sure you inlcude all editing steps in detail.

If your leaving before the challenge starts I believe you have to email a SC member directly, but after the challenge starts there is an option to submit an admin note for the image.
This is based on my memory of a thread that I skimmed though, so I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong -- but you can't go wrong by checking for an online SC member (Who's Online) and PMing them.
