I sent in a DQ recommendation (the only one I ever sent) on the Breaking New Ground Challenge about 5 days ago. Since then I have been waiting for a verified on the photo I questioned. The photo has neither been removed or verified. Are all the DQ recommendations acted upon?? |

yeah it'll either be voted on for DQ by all the site council members or dismissed as being valid right off the bat. The photo still says in the challenge until one of those two happens though -- and you should vote as if it were a legal photo by the way.

So after 5 days I should assume the photo was dismissed as being valid? I did assume it was Okay on my vote...gave it an 8. |

Not sure how long it takes.

You should always assume the photo is valid. Always vote on the photo as if it was valid.

I also requested a photograph for validation [that’s the term I use, it sounds better than disqualification]. I requested it about 3 days or so before the challenge ended and now that it has ended the photograph is still there and does not say “validated” or not. The photographer IMO did not do anything intentionally wrong; he even put his steps in the comment section. The only reason I would like to know if it is legal is because my upcoming entry would look a lot better if I could do it the way he did. I wish there was a way to find out if it was considered legal or if my validation request was overlooked by mistake or not received. |

Rest assured that, even though a photo may not get a "validated" stamp, the requests are being received. Whether the photo winds up getting the stamp depends on what happens after the request is received. In some situations, a photo is found to be legal but will not get the stamp. As previously posted, we all need to vote as if the image was legal.
If you have questions about legality of editing steps on a particular shot after the challenge has ended, feel free to contact the SC and we'd be glad to give an opinion. Do note that for DQ rquests received late in a challenge, it may take several days after the challenge has closed to clear (or DQ) them.

Thanks Kirbic for the explanation. Just curious about why some get the validation stamp and others don't.

One possibility... if the request doesn't merit validation (a DQ request for not meeting the challenge, for example), then it won't get a stamp. |

Unless a photo gets a bunch of DQ requests for an editing technique or looks like it absolutely could not have been done within the legal limits, it generally doesn't get a validation stamp. We feel that most photos don't need that extra attention called to them that can come from the validation notice.
As Kirbic said though, don't worry. We address every single DQ request that comes in...nothing gets overlooked. |

At the risk of hijacking the topic, since the SC is watching this post I was wondering what the stand was on skweing, de-keystoning, de-fishing or using lens correction utilities. I would assume they are verbotten, but since they are becoming a regular part of my workflow, and they do make a nice shot a bit better, so would be sorry to be sumitting inferior product if such modifications were legal. Thanks for any thoughts. |

Such distortions/skews/etc I would judge as legal under 'Advanced' editing, but not permitted under 'Basic'.

I'll hijack this thread to ask the SC something also. I received a request to validate my photo several days ago, I sent in the original and it was validated. When I view my photo as if I was voting on it, I don't see the red type saying "This Photo Has Been Validated". Is that because its my photo and I just dont see it, or whats the reason?
Thanks

See my previous post...we did receive a DQ request but not really for something that warranted a validation stamp. |

Yeah, but there are three challenges that are "current." Knowing which challenge narrows it down for me.
Your entry was validated but did not receive an admin note.
