I`ve just taken delivery of my birthday pressy a 135-400 Sigma lens.
As my birthday isn`t until the beginning of March..I thought I better test it.
This was taken on a dull day through the glass of our conservatory.
settings were..F6.3, 1/160, ISO 1600.
I`ve reduced the noise slightly and there are some compression artifacts showing that aren`t on the compressed version that I uploaded, but that apart, Im delighted with the performance of the lens and look forward to trying some sports shots with it.
Anyone out there with experience of this lens ?

Looks pretty decent to me, especially considering the less than ideal conditions. What focal lenght was that pic taken at?

Happy pre-birthday Gordon.
Is this the lens?
That's big, but the reviewers like it ;)

That looks pretty damn good to me, geewhy!
That lens could well be a contender when I upgrade to DSLR...and a Blue Tit is not the largest of subjects to get a photo of.
Great shot...would love to see some more examples.

So would I Steve..but my better half won`t let me use it until March :(
Neil...That is indeed the lens..I read all the reviews I could find and they seem to be pretty accurate...Plusses are that it is very sharp across the range..(Although I`ve only had the chance to test it at 400mm). On the downside...it`s quite heavy and the AF is noisier than I`m used to but also quicker than I expected...If that`s all I`ve got to complain about, I`ll be delighted.

Enjoy the lens when you get it.
Murphy tells me that there will be "Telephoto" or "Bird Nests", or "Birds in Flight" challenge coming in February...

Why was it stopped down? It looks a little blurred, would a faster shutter help?

Yes the faster shutter speed may well have helped but I stopped down to try to get the sharpest result I could from the lens.
and the fact that it was taken through a glass window is the main reason for the lack of contrast which contributes to the slightly blur look.
