In the spirit of "when you shoot, let us know..."
Yesterday Barbara and I got together for a long overdue field trip. Our last such trip was during the Games challenge, (her entry and mine). Neither one of us took our challenge shot during the trip so there are no potential spoilers here.
Trip map
We met in Gettysburg, PA (the red X) at 7:30 AM. We started with a short drive down to the National Shrine Grotto of Lourdes in Emmitsburg, MD (just south of the Maryland state line). We took some pictures at the Grotto and on the Mount Saint Mary's College and Seminary campus.
We then headed back up to Gettysburg and drove around the town and the national historic site. We got some great pictures of old farmhouses, cannons and other such things before heading to brunch in downtown Gettysburg.
After this we took a long drive up the west shore of the Susquehanna River to Shamokin Dam, located just above Sunbury on the map above. Along the way we stopped at a boat launch where we got some scenery pictures and some maro shots of the wildflowers growing there, and later on we stopped at a rest area along the river and took some more pictures of the river. We then crossed the river at Shamokin Dam and after taking some pictures at the dam, we then came down the east shore along the East shore along the more scenec PA route 147. We only made one stop on the way back down to get some pictures of a very old farmhouse, but saw some intersting towns that may be worth visiting on a future trip.
After returning to Gettysburg, we stopped for an early dinner at a brewpub in Gettysburg, and we each headed home at about 6PM. It was a great day, a much-needed break, and we're looking forward to doing it again soon!
Pictures will follow as soon as we each get a chance to go through them. -Terry
