I am wanting to buy a filter kit and lens set. I was going to spend about $100.00 in extras cause buying my dream camera is so far away:)
The Opteka high definition filter kit, and the 5x wide angle & 2x Telephoto lens set is all that I have found on the internet so far to be compatible with my camera.
Are there more brands then this one and is it worth it to buy a lens set as well?
Thanks in advance.

Tracy you may want to look at the Cokin filters as you would be able to use them with any new camera that you buy in the future.

I used to have a s5000 and if you get a 55 mm adapter (s5000 came with one but I am not sure about 3100) you can use olympus Tcon and Mcon buoth are 55mm thread. Just go to B&H photo and search for Tcon or Mcon to see them. The ones you are talking about are pretty much garbage, I have seen them advertized under different brand names. The Olympus Tcon is the one I bought and it delivers good pics. I am currently waiting for step down and adapter for my FZ20 so I can use it on it too.
Here are a couple of pics i took from 45-50 feet awat (Note the 5000 is a 10x zoom)

with the s3100 i would not do that.......(i work with that camera alot where i work(wolf))
and it is not worth the $100.00 u are better off using the built it tele. and wide angle save and keep saving, then save again for your "dream camrea" what every (i'm assuming) DSLR that may be tust me you will come alot closer to your goal then u could ever imagen.
with that sayed all my potos here in my portfolio were taken with the S414 my camera prior to the d70 which i got 3 day ago.
look through those and if u descide that it is a MUST then go with your gut but i shot all my pics. to this point with a fixed lense 4x optical zoom camera and i know that your camera is way better than that.
_brando_ btw cokin filters are IMO crap but they are cheep and so they appeal to ppl. if u want a good set of stright up fillters Tiffen is one of many filter companies that will give u great fillters a
must have for any photog. are (from the popular photography artical "4 filters every photographer must own"-
circalar polrizer
warming(81A)
flourescent filter ([tiffen's registered nams] FL-D will work and it gives a nice "twilight" when used out doors)
skylight 1A (will act as a lense protector and adds warmth to your out door shots)
as a possible close 4 or but it hits the 5th a defussion filter but u can also cut & streach a stocking over the lense or another filter such as a 1A and thread it onto your lense hood it will work just as good as pretty much any low line defussion.
once more go with your gut and GL |

Wolf Camera is the closest and only store near me that sells supplies unless the schools do.. after reading up on some more brands I am hoping to buy from a local store so I know what I'm getting or atleast be able to browse.... My pictures defanetly need polorizing and the affect changes for outdoor... I think to for the money it would be worth getting something only for this camera. Only luck would be with me to get something compatible with another. I might have to settle with this one another year:)
Thank you so much opinions and advice very much appreciated.
