Does anybody know how safe the buyselltrades.com auction site is?

An auction payable only through a Western Union money transfer to Romania? I wouldn't touch that with a 200 foot pole. Oh... and for that extra sense of security, the seller states that any questions about the auction will not be answered. I'm not feeling all warm and fuzzy.
(well, maybe fuzzy)

Pefectly safe, if you are looking to get scammed. Otherwise, I'd avoid that like the plague.
Money transfer to Romania indeed.

I wouldnt mess with it especially western union. Western union is for transfering money not for making purchases. Any real seller would take paypal or a credit card.

Yeah, I noticed that item is a money grab...I'm assuming this is an indication of the security of the site in general...

Yea, run far away. And why does the box look so different? It's white, not silver. |

White boxes are refurbished cameras. That's ironic considering that white lenses are the most desirable. |

If you click on the description of that auction, it shows you a detailed page headed by the following:
"I have 5 of these straight from Canon, Refurbished. In box, never used, already packaged and ready to ship. Thanks for looking."
The seller operating out of Romania would explain no paypal or credit cards for a couple of reasons; paypal won't DO Romania, and credit cards both knock off a percentage and leave a paper trail. One coudl assume the seller is hiding his income...
The big reason not to buy overseas is you get graymarket cameras that Canon USA won't cover with their warranty. This applies to our American members of course.
I'm NOT saying this auction is legitimate, I'm just saying there are other reasons for the payment procedure that can be "valid"; we deal in rare books, and we run up against this all the time when we negotiate with sellers in former Eastern Bloc countries. They are almost universal in the preference for cash, the online equivalent of which is Western Union.
Robt.

FWIW (from today's DealMac.com): The Canon EOS Digital Rebel SLR 6.3-megapixel digital camera bundled with the Canon EF-S 18-55mm lens costs $849.15 at Dell Home. Together, $70 off coupon code "?MKPMRX7CLCRW6" and a $100 mail-in rebate combine to yield a net price of $679.15. With free shipping, that's $25 off our last mention and the lowest total price we know to be available. The Digital Rebel features a 1.8-inch LCD screen, 4 fps bursts, upgradeable firmware, CompactFlash slot, and USB connectivity. Coupon expires today. |

? I gather that is just for the rebel? I've got three Canon boxes sitting here, and they are all white with red ends/sides.
ed: Hmmm, looking at the picture for the auction I can see what you mean, it is different to my 'new' canon boxes...
