I'm a repeat customer at B&H, in fact I've just placed and received my 3rd order with them in the last month and a half. My most recent order which arrived on Monday contained the 580EX among other film supplies. I used 2 day shipping so the order was placed Friday.

Upon receiving my package, I logged back into B&H to review and update my wishlist and noticed the 580EX price dropped to $399.95 and I had paid $439.95 only 3 days ago! I sent them an email inquiring about the price change and they agreed to refund me $40. I thought their service was great before, but in my mind now they are EXCELLENT! :-D

In short, they over charged you and couldn't get away with it? :)

I don't think that is what happened. Prices change. The salesman, most times, has no way of knowing when the store, or even the manufaturer is about to drop a price.

I deal with a number of suppliers, usually based on price if there is more then a few dollars difference, and B&H has always been profesional. I have never had a problem with them in the 70 or more times I have dealt with them over the years.

I wish I could say that was true of every supplier I try.

I love B&H, I bought all of my camera equipment over there plus their store is fun. In the entrance they have these boxes of merchandise just hanging over your head and they give out free photoshop magasins which are updated every month. Also it's really useful to have someone that you know working there who would help with the choice of camera and give you hints about the pricing ;)

Oh yes how can you not love B&H?

For the fact that they are closed like half of the year. It's not a problem to have holidays, but why not think about your customers and hire someone who can ship orders when you are on holidays.

They announce their closure dates waaay in advance, with some planning you can get whatever product you want. I don't see what the problem is with that. And it's not like they are the only store in town.

I have to say, I love B&H. I have spent countless hours picking the salesmen's brains over which lens, which flash, etc. They really know their products and are extremely helpful. If you are ever in NYC, stop by the store. It's something to see! It's ALWAYS packed with people, but it runs surprisingly effeciently. I'm not surprised about your story - they want their customers to be happy. The day I purchased my Rebel I bought a LOT of stuff and the salesman suggested that he overnight mail it to my house instead of paying NYC tax. Saved me over $200!! I'm a customer for life! Try them out! (ha ha - you'd think they would throw in some free stuff for that kind of advertising, huh??)

Its easy to say just buy before the holiday. Some times stuff just comes up. We aren't talking about a day here and there, sometimes its weeks. Dont let any Jewish holidays sneak up on you. Its not just B&H though, its ALL of the big ones. I needed film one time and ended buyint it local, at $15 per roll(x10) just to get by.
