Poll:

My votes in two challenges have been struggling along, moving up slowly, and so I've taken to monitoring and tracking votes for part of these challenges.

I wonder how coincidental it could be that after struggling to go up, I got a 1 in two challenges within 10 minutes of each other. Coincidence? Trolls voting a lot of images 1?

I know such votes will be dropped, if they did it throughout, but I am curious how many people just got hit in the last hour with a 1?

If you noticed you got a 1 in any challenge between 2:40 and 3:40 EST chime in here. (I realize not everyone's watching, but I thought it would be interesting!)

How can you tell what score you have just been given?

I did just go from 4.84 to 4.78 in a few votes but I dunno what the votes were. I've just accepted that my photo sucks :P

3DsArcher: If you watch your score, and write it down as it changes, you can use simple math to find out what the incremental vote is. Multiply the votes times the score, giving a total, when a new vote comes in do the same, and subtract. That's the new vote. If there's only 1 new vote, you know exactly what they voted. If there are multiple votes between your measurements, then you can only know the average vote during the period.

There are better explanations in the forums. I use a spreadsheet when I'm tracking--it makes it easy. But in general, I don't track any more. You will see it anyway at the end in a histogram.

Ben - Maybe Drew and Langdon are testing a new April 1st surprise for us. ;)

Perhaps the London get together might wake up our latent potential.

Or perhaps we can just mope around all day, cursing the limits of London for photographers such as us!!

Neil, Thanks for the explanation. I have seen others talk about exact votes recieved in their scores & often wondered how it was done. Now I have yet another reason to keep hitting the update button :)

My score hasnt ever been so consistent. The entire time it has stayed pretty much the same but today it dropped a little. not sure of the hour or anything though.

This is a little misleading because it gives the impression that you can tell exactly what a particular vote was. You can't ever be completely sure. One reason you can't be sure is that someone who has already voted may have changed their vote up or down at the same time a new vote came in. Also some voters use a certain vote number to "mark" entries they want to come back to later.

what are you at riotspyne, if I may ask?

I'm at 4.8 or something...I wouldn't give my photo more than a 5 either...

The math behind calculating your last score is OK, given the assumption that everyone votes only once. For example, I vote in two waves, sometimes adjusting my score on the second pass. That does not fit the formula described above. (The number of votes is the same, and I may score the photo higher or lower changing the average without changing the total number of votes.)

And I've just noticed coolhar explained this already:-)

Also, does anyone know how does the 20% limit works - do those votes from people that didn't reach 20% count immediately and are later subtracted if the critics did not complete 20% of the votes by the end of the voting period, or do those votes suddenly kick in after the critic reaches the 20% threshold?

I skimmed through looking for a shot that might be yours..I read in another thread that you really did something different. I was intriqued. There's some stuff that I really liked but I think I'm in the minority :-)
