Hello,

If someone who knows the answer to this, please expain how our average vote received is computed; I have looked around and have not found a clear discussion. My DPC average after 2 challenge entries is 6.0826

Is it the average of the challenge divided by the number of challenges?
If I added the Implied Line challenge (5.385) and October Free study challenge (6.645) averages together (12.03) and divided by 2, I get an average of 6.015.

Or, is more weight given to a challenge that had more participants? For instance, the Implied Lines had 173 entries, and the October Free study had 488 entries.
So, (5.385)*(173) = 931.605 and (6.645)*(488) = 3242.76.
931.605 + 3242.76 = 4174.365 which is divided by a total number of entries in the 2 challenges (661) to get an overall average of 6.3152.

Just curious to have someone shed some light on the subject.

I believe it's the average of all votes you've received across all challenges.

take your score in a challenge and multiply by the number of votes you recieved in that challenge ... do that for all challenges ... add those totals together and divide by the total number of votes you got for all challenges

Ok, remember that my DPC average vote received after 2 challenges is 6.0826

but, if I follow your answer, here's what I come up with:

5.385*173 = 931.605
6.645*488 = 3242.76

931.605 + 3242.76 = 4174.365

4174.365/661 = 6.315

It is the average of votes and votes received:
1st challenge 6.645*248=1648
2nd Challenge 5.385*200=1077

To get the average vote received
1. Add total votes received = 2725
2. Add Total Votes = 448
3. Divide Total votes received by total votes = 6.0825

yes, the 173 and 488 were just the number of submissions in the challenge, not the number of votes YOU recieved.

Thanks David. I have a feeling that it will change since I've got 3 photos in the voting phase now, plus one to be entered into the New/Old challenge. I'm trying to keep up the '05 resolution of at least 4 challenges per month. It's still January, I hope that I will stay the course until Dec.

Average score received = total points / total votes

Where:
points = number of votes in all challenges per category * "value" of each category
There are 10 "value" categories from 1-10 for each possible vote. The point "value" matches the category. "1" for 1, "2" for 2, "3" for 3, etc.

(Ex. a vote of 3 has a "value" of 3, a vote of 8 has a "value" of 8.
If you have "2" total votes in the 3 "value" category then the total points for the 3 category is 2 * 3 = 6 points. This would be the total points for all 3 votes you received)

Further:
Total points = sum of (total points for each value category from 1 thru 10)
(Ex. If you got 2 votes in each "value" category 1 thru 10 then:
Total Points = 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 + 10 + 12 + 17 + 16 + 18 + 20 = 115)

Total votes = sum of total votes received in all challenges entered
(Ex. Continuing previous example:
Total Votes = 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 20

For the example where you got exactly 2 votes in each "value" category the final average is:

Average Vote Received = 115 / 20 = 5.5

Given this your average vote recieved is correct.
