I have been told that Canon does not make a hotshoe adpater or pc terminal adpater to fit a Canon PowerShot Pro 1 so that I can use my studio lighting (Novatron lighting kit). I order a synchro shoe but it did not work. I need an answer as I am trying to start a photography business and now I have the equipment I need but I cannot make the flashes work. I also have a Canon Speedlight 420EX flash for the camera but I want to use my studio lighting. Someone help me please....

Slave unit.

if you can put a 420 on the shoe, shouldn't you be able to attach a converter? If not, slave is the only way.

Hmm...Pro1...

All the converters that I have seen do not support the 5 terminals that are on the PowerShot Pro 1's hotshooe where the flash mounts. I have looked and looked. When you say I need a slave can you point me in the right direction for this. Where can I go to find a slave that will work. Thank you for your posts. I welcome any and all help!

I think that for the Pro 1, the only provision Canon has made for sending the flash info (both level and triggering) is the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2.

Oh, studio lights don't do that. At least none that I've ever seen. All the converter is for is to sync, you have to set all the exposures yourself, best get a light meter. Good luck!

I'm curious as to what kind of business you're setting up with that equipment?

The simple fact is that a studio flash system does not work with the camera the way the dedicated speedlites work. If you want/need E-TTL you need to stick with 420EX/550EX/ST-E2 setups and live with the low power output.

If you stick with the Novatron flash units, you will not have E-TTL and you will need a decent flashmeter. You will get more flexibility and power.

You don't say what kind of business you are setting up, but I'm not sure you have the right equipment and knowledge to succeed. Good luck.

Your Canon PowerShot Pro 1 doesn’t have a built-in PC terminal so you’ll need a hot-shoe to PC sync terminal adapter. One of these should do the trickâ€Â¦

Wein Safe-Sync Hot Shoe Mounted High Voltage Sync Regulator - $49.95

Speedotron Safe Sync Hot Shoe Adapter - $69.95

AlienBees Hot Shoe Adapter - $14.95

The Wein and Speedotron units both have circuitry that reduces the sync-line voltage to a safe level for your camera. I̢۪m not sure about the AlienBees unit, but since it̢۪s much cheaper it might be worth your time to ask them. Also, if the sync voltage of your strobes is low enough for your camera, then you don̢۪t need the voltage regulation circuitry anyway.

If your strobes have built-in optical slaves, then you could fire them using the light from your hot-shoe mounted flash. However, there are several disadvantages to doing it this way so I don̢۪t recommend it.

Be aware that whatever you use to fire your studio strobes will not control the flash output levels. In other words, your camera̢۪s E-TTL features will not work with non-dedicated external flash units. You will need to adjust the flash output on the strobes manually. A decent light meter is a good idea.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
