Fooling around with an old photo from Rome. Second one is converted into a painting in PS. Anyone care to toss around some thoughts?

Nice atmospheric pics - I had a quick start at removing road signs which I feel are distracting.

Nice work. I had thought about doing that too. More than the signs, that pipe right on the corner bothers me so I think I'll have a go at taking that out.
I took this pic during the same trip. When I went back to shoot it again, they had washed away all the dirt and grime and completely re-painted the walls....took all the beauty and charm out of it. |

Don't you DARE take out the street signs, scorp. I love the fountain shot too; pity it's truncated on top...
People can be annoying, can't they? Always cleaning up their environments, utterly heedless of we photogs who really appreciate the timeless sense of decay that permeates the "old world."

| Okay, I'll leave as is. I like the original enough. About the fountain, when I had my Coolpix 990, that was as far back as I could get, literally. My back was against the wall of the building and that was the best frame I could get. That's why I went back on my next trip and....spotless and ruined. Have to wait another 30 years and it will look great again. |

Did you take a photo the second time? It might be neat to contrast the two side by side...

Here it is:
Keep in mind the lighting and time of year was dramitically different but you can see the huge difference. |

Hey that ain't so bad at all. Use a mask and de-orange it to a reasonable warm tonality and you got a great shot.
Some folks may even LIKE the orange...
kinda like this, maybe:

Aww that's a shame, it really has an old rustic charm that suits Rome well with the dirt and the decaying walls. Too bad they cleaned it up. |

If you look at the veritical shot from the first two ( roman painting ), you can see this at the top left of the photo:
It's the woman's apartment window. Not too shabby. |
