Anyone, let me know how I am doing. Took this today. What do you think on lighting, composition, color ,saturation , skin tones for those of you with calibrated monitors.Have printed on canon cp300 and s800 and I was pleased. thinking of having enlargements made.
thanks in advance, will appreciate all comments. |

I, as a policy now and as a rule, must ask this every time before I comment.
Do you want an honest critique, or do you just want someone to tell you what a nice picture you took? Have to ask.

The backlighting doesn't really work for my taste and the focus on all three seems a bit soft. Use a large aperture to get the focus really crisp and move the subject further from the backdrop.

Pic 1 has an annoying leg portion in the bottom corner
Pic 2 also has an annoying leg portion
These can be cropped out if desired.
Pic 3 - always difficult to get 3 children looking in the same direction - were there a number of adults present calling their names?
With digital cameras results can be checked immediately and reshot if necessary.
As with nsbca7, I've assumed you're wanting others' opinions.

Remember, between black and white there is a wonderful spectrum of colour (okay, that's not really scientific but you know what I mean!)...

The lighting doesn't work here, or actually the lack thereof.
Cute girls, repost if you decide to shoot it again.

I agree. Lose those leg portions on the first two and they would be great. |

The lighting is completely wrong. There's no warmth here, there's no modeling of the faces, there's nothing but hot spots on the background. The extraneous legs should be covered with skirts.

Depending on how many lights you have, it might be easier for you to just concentrate more on lighting the children rather than the background.
My first suggestion would be to move them further away from the background. That way you won't see the wrinkles and lines and folds and things like that. Concentrate on just lighting them well, and go with a dark background. If you really want to do both and have a well lit background, you will need a strong, soft light to use for that in addition to the main lighting for them. |
