Two questions about these. I'm considering the 23" cinema display, and am wondering if anyone uses it for photo work. LCDs still have that stigma in my mind of not being good for working with photos. Anyone out there work with one and think it's great?

Also, anyone use it with a PC? I'll obviously have to buy an ADC to DVI converter, but I want to know that it works OK before I dive in.

Thanks.

i dont know how it is with photos, but i know 2 people who have them, and apparently they work great. You do have to have a pretty kickass video card to support the insane resolution though (and obviously the converter). i'd look around on the net for people who've used them in pc's and which vid card they used.. i dont know what one of my friends has, but the other has an Nvidia Quadro4 980XGL i beleive.. which is a tad pricey :) granted if you're making the investment for a 23inch screen......

I have a couple 20'' Apple Cinema Displays (which have basically the same specs as the 23''), and it is absolutely wonderful for image work.

I posted almost the exact same question when I was considering getting an LCD screen and I had a lot more comments against the use of LCD screens than those for it. Not only here but from foiks at the camera club I belong to as well.

Mostly its with regards to monitor calibration... An LCD screen is supposedly difficult to calibrate...and I've heard stories of photographers shooting photographs and editing on the spot with their LCD screen laptops and then just getting horendous results when they return home and view them on the PC...

Mind you, Apple Cinema Displays are likely better quality than the LCD displays found on laptops. if LCDs are not good for image work, it would make no sense for apple to exckusively sell LCD screens. But since, at the end of the day, I got an overwhelmingly negative response on this question, I chose a CRT monitor in the end.

I really hate the LCD on my IBM Thinkpad, however, the other week I was in CompUSA and looked at the Apple displays and a couple other large LCD displays, and noticed the contrast ratio specs were very high compared to the typical 300:1 spec I am used to. Since one of the PCs with an 18" high contrast LCD was hooked up to the 'net, I perused dpreview.com and downloaded a couple high res sample photos. I think I would be very satisfied editing using that monitor. First time I can say that for LCD.
