alright...i just found a ton of filters, but none of them fit my camera lense so i cant test them out yet, so out of curiosity;

What does a diffuser do?
Do different color filters only change the color of the shot?
What does PL stand for? what does it do?
Do the Number Letter combintations (like 82A) mean anything?

...i know its a lot, if you just want to point me to website that would be fine too

Diffusers make the image soft.
Yes, color filters change the color of the shot in color images. Usually used to enhance particular colors or correct color cast from various types of lighting. With B&W film they change contrast.
PL is usually a polarizing filter.
82A is a cooling filter. Makes the overall color temp cooler so that you get better blues and greens.

Try this freeware program OPanda Photo Filter it is a nifty way to see what the different Hoya, Cokin and Kodak filters do to your pictures.

I've saved a few of my really blue pics when I forgot to change the white balance with this program.
