My camera has been driving me absolutley nuts over the last few months, as the Lever to turn it on and off is sometimes so stiff, I have the feeling it will break off before I get to turn my camera on or off.
Anyway I was always too scared to lubricate it as was scared to ruin the electrical contacts or something.
Today I got desperate and oiled it, then thought I should have asked here first rather than afterwards.
I used a Universal silicon light glide oil.
Works like a dream, but was it the right thing to do?
is it the right oil?

Too late now! If it works, then it was the right thing to do. Otherwise...

It should be fine. Sounds like the right oil.

I wonder why the lever would tighten up that much? Rust?

on my d60 sometimes the buttons, switches and dials get stiff. I use compressed air for electronic equipment to blow them out and the brush end of a lens pen. Does the trick every time.

Maybe you should have done that, oh well, but as long as you used a very small amount none should leak inside. Only problem is the oil can attract dirt and dust making it harder to blow out.
