Has anybody else had this problem?

I take a photo using my Canon 20D in RAW format. I then process the image and save it as a Tiff file (16 bit).

I then try to open the file in Paintshop pro 9 and an error message âfile not recognised as a supported typeâ pops up !

I then revert back to Paintshop pro 8 and it opens the Tiff file straight away.

I have checked all the boxes in file associations a few times but psp 9 still refuses to open that type of file.

Where am I going wrong?

Ps Canon saves the file as a Tif not Tiff will this make a difference?

The extension of tif or tiff really makes no difference. For a number of Operating Systems, you don't even need to have file extension names on the files for the OS to understand the type of file and open up the file in the correct application.

Beyond, I am unable to shed any additional light on your problem.

The type of compression you are saving the TIF with is incompatable. Try no compression.

Hi Caeclyd,
I think Arcanist is right about the compression causing the problem of reading a Tiff. file for you. I had the same problem some time ago.

Open a file.
Hit save as,
Select Tiff.
Click on the options button.
A box should open that gives you a selection.
Check the uncompressed box and the RGB box.
(Those should be the only ones checked)
Hit ok and save.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the offer but i am still on dial up until March:-(
Thanks for all the advice. Next time I play with a RAW I will take note of all your comments. What I have done with my existing tiff files is open them in psp 8 and save as a tiff again. This seems to solve the problem.

I was having this issue with some modes of .jpg as well. After I updated using the updater, it seems to have gone away.
