I was in the woods miles away from any highway when I came across this [read the details on what went trough my mind]. I used a kind of mystic post processing because I had motion blur due to no tripod with me and a quick shot. I'm not to happy with the outcome, so any suggestions would be grateful. I want to keep the picture. Or do you think its OK in it's current post process.

What wild or weird object have you came across deep in the woods that made you wonder?

Well, I think it's quite pretty as it is, very dreamy looking. And what a find.... the only things I've ever found while out in the woods are old Deer Stands :(

Well it looks like it is at least on some kind of trail, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding this place again. If you are not happy with what you have go back (take a tripod this time) and shoot it again. And again, and again.

It is really good compostion, and looks to be a good shot op. If you are not happy though it's not going to get any better just because a bunch of people tell you what a great shot you took.

SD,

can you post the original? I'd love to have a go at it :-)

100% Crop: I just resized for web. I use to have a plug-in for motion blur and out-of-focus but trial has ran out.

Love the shot, Scott.

If it were mine, I think I would tone down the bright yellows in the leaves that are on the trees, while keeping the yellows in the fallen leaves on the boulder. The brightness of the foliage says "Spring" to me, while the brown leaf litter says "Autumn", and is kind of incongruous.

I think I would also rotate maybe 3-5 degrees left to level up the bench, even if that isn't accurate in reality. Think it would make a more pleasing photo. In doing so, of course, the trees will have more of a tilt, but that wouldn't bother me at all, but would just add to the wildness of the place.

One more thing I would try would be to very lightly burn the bright white portion of the bolder in the lower left portion. Just a little bit. Might also consider darkening the general area in the lower right of the frame that is below the boulder, maybe give it a shadowier look.

Let me add my disclaimer of "but what do I know?"! Just my take on the photo. BTW, I'm originally from GA also and don't get down there very often. I can almost smell the earth in your photo. Mind if I ask where it is?

Thank you for your critique and I will try your suggestions. I live in Columbus, Ga. Picture was taken about 25 miles north in Harris county near Pine Mountain.

Left comments... I crtiqued prior to seeing the original you posted. With that new piece of information I have to second the kudos on your editing. I'd encourage you to return to that spot during sunrise/sunset (don't know which direction that rick faces) with a tripod. It's a subject I think you could develop into a nice print given the right cisrumstances.
