I have a problem
I'm really bored.
And I live in Canada which mean that for the next few month I wont go out shooting for a day and I don't like winter landscape or winter at all. I don't have studio equipment and I'm getting tired of shooting a bolt or a dishwasher.
What are people from Canada or any other country where the winter is like ours do.
Help.
Please.

Same dilema here, sort of except I like winter landscapes so it´s not so big of a problem for me but I can only really shoot during weekends since I have a full time job and it´s dark when I go to work and when I come home.
I dunno what to tell you, do you want me to make a list of websites you can just hang around? :o)

I find that this time is crucial for honing the creative edge I need for "Spring" photography. This is acheived by enjoying a good glass of wine beside a warm fireplace. As the premature impulse creeps in to break out of this "non-photo" doldrum, I quickly remind myself that this time is vital to re-energize my inspiration and I should respect this dormancy.
In other words, I drink wine, stay warm and make up alot of BS.

This is funny in a way :)
Someone emailed me today after seeing my PBase gallery and was asking about the Tokina lens. He told me he was from Canada and was having the same porblem. He said it was like -27 deg F.. Maybe you two should meet up and do some inside shoots :)
I lived in Upstate NY about 11 miles from Canadian border for 29 years and I know what it is like. The last winter we spent in NY it go to -54 deg F. :(
You don't need expensive studio gear to shoot inside. I use the poor mans studio and it works great.

Winter in Alabama. It's 2am and 70 deg F outside. But it might go down to 30 by Saturday night, so it's not all peaches here.

| Right now it's -33C here in Calgary. I basically haven't been taking pictures. I'm not so much concerned about my comfort as much as what extreme cold will do to my equipment. It's very dry here so condensation wouldn't be as much of a problem as in other places, but it's still a problem. |

I live in Calgary as well and I take pics in all temps .
I usually tuck my drebel im my coat when I am not shooting.
It helps.
If it is -30C it is not bad, it is when the wind gets up that it is unbearable and hard on the exposed skin and equipment.
There is beauty in cold. It's hard to capture but ... some memorable shots come frome the cold white days. |

| Hi Shakey...yeah I've been running ouside these last few weeks and it really hasn't been that bad. Didn't run outside today though. I may try to get out with my 10D, or the new Contax film camera I got for Christmas. I have a roll of Velvia in it right now and might be nice to take a pic or two of the river on a nice sunny day for the folks back home. It looks very extreme. |
