This sculpture was unvieled today in Manchester to commemorate the Commonwealth Games.
Each of thos lines you see is a huge steel spike, maybe 30-40 feet in length. Its very very impressive when its all lit up in the howling Manchester gale and rain storm.
I have to be first on DPC to bring you this new artwork ;-) |

Wow, looks neat...I can't figure it out...nice composition and colour, though!
You don't have a brighter or daylight shot to provide context, do you?

No I called on the way home, it was dark.
Basically this is looking up at an angle of maybe 30deg using a 16mm wide angle. I was maybe 40feet away at a guess- so you can imagine how big this thing is.

I absolutely love that piece. I saw a news report today with some idiots interviewed saying they thought it was junk, etc., etc. They said that about Swiss Re (the 'gerkin') too but, thankfully, other people know better!
Get some more shots please - I'd really like to see some with a person to give it some scale.
: )

I have just seen it on the Goggle Box
looks to be about 9m across (30 feet)
very thin long spikes which were saying in the wind..

Heres another, still no scale though (It was really tipping it down, not a sole anywhere except me and a BBC reporter ;-) |

No its the tallest sculpture in the UK so its got to be more than that. Bigger even than the Angel of the North in Gateshead |

So this is to commemorate the Commonwealth games that were held in Manchester nearly 3 years ago. Seems a long time ago :).
Although Portsmouth are still building their Millennium tower :)

Size comparison I stole from the BBC website :)
It's 3 feet shorter than Nelson's Column
