Let's see your snowflake attempts. Here is my first attempt. The only editing was deleting all of the dust and out of focus flakes that were on the glass that I used to take the picture on.

Taken with 100mm F2.8 Macro

Wow! Nice shot!
I've got to save up for a macro lens...

Wow... Is that a real snowflake? That's awesome!

Too bad I can't try it out... for 2 reasons. No Macro lens and it doesn't snow in So. Cal.

Anyway, did you take this on a window or on a slide?

Yes, it's a real flake. I used the glass from a foto frame. I put it outside until it got cold enough to not melt the flakes that I cought on it. Then snapped away.

Nice shot! I tried shooting snowflakes yesterday, but it was about 34 degrees outside, so the flakes were broken and/or partially melted before I even caught them.

Unfortunately, we are having thunderstroms in Chicago today (!). No snow for us, unlike last week.

Real, impressive and nice details. I've always wanted to try that, OK bring on the snow I got to try it.

Now did you actually shot this outside or ran inside and quick took the shots?

I took it outside. And it actually made me realize how much I realldy do enjoy photography. I was waering a t-shirt a pair of short and sandals. Once I knew the glass was cold enough I went outside, grabbed the glass held it up under the porch light and held up my camera. Yes....this was handheld. I had to use ISO-800 in order get anything near 1/80 or even /60. The entire time I was outside I was oblivious to the cold despite the fact that it was about 7deg F.

No one has any more examples? I know I've seen some on here that were amazing but I can't find them.

Absolutely - There's the "Gold Standard" of macro snowflakes on this site :-)

That's the one I was looking for. I remember seeing this a long time a go and remembered this technique so I tried it myself. I'll have to try reversing my 50mm in front it and try to get even closer. Thanks for sharing.
