Has anyone used theatrical gel with their lighting? I've got access to pretty much the entire Rosco line and I'm wondering about any tips people might have for playing with it.

All my experience with gel has been in live theatre, as opposed to photographic lighting. I'd say you should be fine using it though, just don't let it touch any exposed bulbs (tends to melt).

Remember that you can double it up and combine different colours - but if you've got access to the entire range then you should have no problems anyway. I wonder if the frosted gels would be of use, or if they would be too close to the light source to really help (hmm, might be good for macro shots with very close light).

all of my experience with gel has been in the theatre as well. I just grabbed some R91, R339, and R63 from the cabinet and wandered off to play with it. The results were a little odd, especially with the R91 -- I think I need my swatchbook to look at the specs a bit.

Also, vary your background colors. An amber gel against white makes vanilla.... dark blue (or is it red? oops.. forget which.. hehe.. try both!) against pink makes lilac. Anyway. The point is to mix and match.
