OK, I finally made my choice between the D-Rebel & Nikon D70. Ordered my Christmas present this morning. Settled for the 18-70 kit lens for now. Blue ribbon, here I come... HAH!! I crack me up! |

Congrats on the new camera, it takes great pictures. ( or so I'm told ). Have fun with it and don't let the wise-ass Canon owners trick you into thinking you made a bad choice in systems. |

Congrats! I chose the Rebel myself although I think the Nikon is probably a slightly better camera. But I got the Rebel for a few hundred less than I could find the Nikon. Mine is going to arrive on Monday. I hope I can take some good pictures with it. I wish you good pictures with your new one. |

Thanks, guys. I'm looking forward to learning a lot with my new toy.
jfalkner, good luck to you also. I nearly bought the Canon, but decided to spend the extra money instead. There's a guy at work who's going to be really disappointed with me. I'd probably end up happy with either one, but I just seem to like the feel of the images from the Nikon more - more like film?
Great shots, Flash. Love the tiger. And the snow.. And the fireworks... |

congrats! Either way is a great choice. In the right hands, they'll perform pretty much the same way anyway -- it's all about the lens. have fun. The biggest thing to adjust to when getting a DSLR from a P&S is getting used to a bigger camera bag and loads more gear.

Settled? I predict you'll change your wording after using that piece of glass. It's quite nice, and for its focal length very compact (convenient!). Welcome to the D70 club - I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
My advice: Read the manual once a month for the first 4 months you own the camera. You'll implode if you try to learn everything at once :)

Welcome aboard :)
The kit lens is excellent, I've also added the 50mm 1.8 and 70-210 4-5.6 (both bought cheaply off ebay).

By "settled for" I mean to say that I had to limit myself to one lens for the time being. Can't quite justify the 80-400 VR... Yet! |

You might want to look at the 70-200VR and a teleconverter instead. The 80-400 is slower glass (f/4). I've found the f/4 to be a problem in many conditions I shoot in, which is why I'm hoping to trade up my 70-300 for a 70-200 f/2. It all depends on what you do though, and both are very fine optics.

Thanks for the input. I'm sure I'll be pestering everyone here for opinions when the time comes to make the choice. Can't wait to get my hands on the new baby. Hopefully by the end of the week it will be here. |
