With the Where's Waldo II, there's been no photos that have grabbed me, equally there's been nothing that's no good either. Everything's compressed in the narrow middle scores. I'm wondering if other people try and vote such that a 10 is always worth the same, or if they expand out their votes so they always give 9's and 10's and 1's and 2's to their favourite/disliked photos available?

Personally, I try to vote the same for each challenge. If a photo deserved a six last week, then something of similar quality also deserves a six this week, not a five or seven, IMO.

I usually vote in the range 3-10, some weeks im throwing out 10s and 9s left and right because there are so many good photos, other weeks i dont give out a single 10 because there were no photos that really grabbed me. There are even some weeks I give an image a 1 or 2 :-)
So it really just depends on the photo, I dont try to compensate for a lot of good images by giving lower scores... thats not fair to the people who took the photo. If 10th place gets a score above 7 it was because there were so many good photos that week. |

I vote the full range.
3 to 8 scores are based on adherence to the brief and technical quality. 1,2 and 9,10 are based on my appreciation of the artistry and imagination of the photographer. I am much more impressed by a bad photograph of a good idea than a "perfect" photo of a trivial one. |

I vote like this. Every picture starts with a ten. I then look to see that it adheres to the theme. If it is totally off the theme it will drop 4-5 points. Next I look at sharpness (unless I see it was itended as a soft focus for mood, ect...), composition and originality. A 1 is an image that I felt was off on all counts. A ten is something that I wouldn't feel bad spending money on or hanging in my livingroom.
To get a ten from me the image must be well composed with good lighting. It must be sharp, original or novel, meet the chalenge theme and most important it must convey a feeling. Lacking any one of these will rate a 9 at best. I gave out no tens in the Waldo II chalenge. |

My conundrum is what if I can't find Waldo. Do I vote low assuming he's not there and the challenge was not met, or do I vote high, assuming that they did an excellent job hiding Waldo? |
