I am hoping one of you clever people has an answer for me.
Ever since I got my new baby a few weeks ago, I have been seeing this darn error message every time I download my photos onto the computer and as soon as it connects. This is the message I am getting:
"The camera is busy and cannot respond. If the LCD monitor of the camera is turned on, turn it off. Click retry to try again or click Cancel to disconnect the camera."
I can still download by closing that error dialog box, but only via the EOS Viewer program (which I hate), or via treating the camera as a drive and going through windows explorer.
What I would LIKE to do is to use Zoombrowser, the latest version looks so good.
Zoombrowser SEES the camera and names it correctly, but keeps giving me that error message. I can't get into any preference or option setting that lets me change it.
I don't have any LCD monitor on. I can't find anything in the menu setting that makes sense. I have tried the ON switch in both positions. I have tried connecting via a (powered) hub, as well as directly into the computer (XP Pro, USB 2)...... it makes no difference.
I'm pretty sure its not the camera's fault, because I tried it with another 20D which gave me the same error message.
I hope someone can help me sort this out.
Many thanks in advance.

'Urro..
Just a guess as I don't use zoom-browser, or any of Canon's software for that matter.
Check that the USB mode is 'normal' and not PTP? Worth a shot.
Cheers, Chris H.

I read this with great interest as I am seriously contemplating purchasing one of those wonderful cameras. However, I will wait to hear from the gurus on this site prior to doing so.
I will keep an eye on this thread to see how this problem is resolved. |

Just buy a card reader, they are cheap and much easier than downloading via the camera.

Your question was also brought up in this forum on another site in early December. I don't know if it will help but here is the LINK

Thanks for trying, but no luck yet.
Chris - yes, the camera is on "normal" communication
Mike - I have a card reader, but the camera is faster
plumber711- I emailed Canon, they answered that the zoombrowser is not compatible with the 20D (but I'm not ready to totally believe that yet). Might try to phone during the week.
SDW65 - thanks for that link. The person in that forum managed to overcome the problem, which just convinced me even more that it IS possible.
Still hoping for a solution ..... |

I missed the part about Zoombrowser - so will your PC communicate with the 20D using the bundled software? (File Viewer, EOS Capture, etc) ?

Yes, the EOS Capture and the "EOS Viewer Utility" works (after I close down the error message), but I hate it.
Zoombrowser was so good with my Pro 1 - I plugged in the camera, and it did everything by itself according to my settings, it was great!
The person in the other forum (that SDW65 gave me the link to) had the exact same problem, but he said that uninstalling the older version and installing the newer fixed his problem. Didn't work for me :-(
The weird part is that zoombrowser correctly shows a "EOS 20D". So why give me an error message about a LCD monitor being ON, that isn't on and can't be turned off?
*sigh* |

Ok, you convinced me.
I just bought a USB 2 card reader, the photos are FLYING onto my computer via zoombrowser and I'm happy as a shutterbug in a dark room.
Thank you all :-) |
