Just thought I would pass along something that has worked out great for me. I doubt it's an original idea, but it works.
I hate looking through a viewfinder with glasses. The diopter setting on my D70 cannot compensate for my terrible vision. I just got a new pair of glasses, the perscription had changed only minimally. All I needed was a non-destructive way to attach an old (glasses) lens to the camera body...
The solution that worked for me: for $5 I bought a spare DK-5, which is the viewfinder cover that comes with the D70. I took a Dremel tool and cut out the middle (I'm sure you could use an exacto knife or something too - it's just plastic). Took some epoxy and glued the old right-eye (since I'm right-eyed) lens to it.
I thought about cutting off the extra lens that stuck out, but instead I decided to mask it off with electrical tape. The shape and size of my lens is such that it really works well as an eyecup. And it doesn't look half bad either - even if I do say so myself.
So for 15-20 minutes of work and about $5 I have a great new diopter eyecup!

The DK-5 viewfinder cover slides over little rims on the viewfinder - so it slides on and off just like it was made for it. (And just like a store-bought one would.) |
