I am sorry, but I don't get it... Are those people buying those photographs business men to advertise their products? And can anyone buy those photos and can do with them what they like? I just can not imagine a business man buying those photos to do an advert if any other business man might take the same photographs and do the same?

Also, could the photographer use his photos for any other purposes, too?

I am sorry if I sound silly, but just don't understand the whole stock photography thing

Look at the nmbers of magazines on the shelves of your local news agent, look at the number of posters everywhere, company brochures, web sites, all the images in the newspapers: every where you go, every day, there are thousnads of images printed and published. Where do you suppose those images come from?

Ok, so if I was going to sell some images on the stock site, can I still sell prints of those images myself like on DPC?

It depends on the site. You have to read the fine print in the agreement when you sign up. Some are exclusive, some are not.

iStock, Canstock and shutterstock are non-exclusive sites.

Thank you Colette, I have noticed that you are with three diffrernt stock sites and on each one you have different photographs uploaded to. Is there a reason for that? Does that mean you can not use the same images on all three sites? Thanks for your reply

I've just chosen to do it that way. Each site seems to have a different clientel therefore different types of photos sell. I could have the same portfolio on all but choose not to. I currently only have photos on Canstock and shutterstock.

i used dreamstime.com I just posted around 15 images and i earned $9.00... and the cost per upload is much higher at $0.50 ... but as of now i stopped from submitting my images, i just manage it by myself and earn more... my rate per image is not lower than $100/image (and as high as $300)for 1 time use only. and its quite working....

Truthfully, I may as well stick some up there. I have hundreds of decent, but personally uninspiring shots languishing on my HDs so at least they can perform a function and make a small amount of money in the process.

I've made 30$ so far and I don't care how long it takes.

Of course, if you think your time and photography are worthless, by all means... post on these type of sites. I'll focus on selling individual images for hundreds of dollars "per download".

My 3 megapixel camera would never make it to the other the stock agencies :(

Ditto
I made 6.4$ hehehe
But I will keep on uploading

Anyone else have experience with ocassional RUDE rejections from Shutterstock? Or are they just picking on me? ...... I have not experienced that sort of rudeness elsewhere.

I haven't had any response yet, take it they do not work on the weekend?

How long does it approx take for them to get back with either approval or denial?

Shutterstock has been really nice to me :)
I have had a batch of images approved a few hours after I uploaded them. They are quick, from my experience. I haven't had many rejections, but the ones that were rejected were actually of poor quality, I have to agree.

Could you please post an example.

They've recently hired a new reviewer to handle weekend submissions, as there was typically a backlog of about 5000 submissions waiting on Monday ... I don't know if the person's covering that shift yet.

The "usual" review time runs from 12 hours to 3 days -- from the postings in the SS Forum I understand that this is far and away the fastest of all the RF stock sites.

As GeneralE has said Shutterstock now has a weekend reviewer. This is true because I submitted 2 yesterday and they were both accepted yesterday. Before it would take about a day to get them ok'd.
