noticed that there are more and more pictures with borders being submitted, or is it just me?
I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing, just that there seems to be a lot.

Never noticed it myself, although I do like a plain black or white 15-20 pixel border myself.

Not having a border harms the photo I feel, kind of like not mounting a print.

I think you are right UNCLEBRO but it's just an unscientific guess. I prefer the smaller, plainer ones myself - 10 pixels or less, two colors at most; but am open minded to almost anything tasteful. But the border shoundn't take very much space, or attention, away from the image. At 640x640, the max challenge size, a 20 pixel border takes up 12.1% of the total area. For a 640x480 image a 20 pixel border is slightly over 14% of the space.

I usually prefer a slim white border for prints, as opposed to the borderless type.
