Just looking for critiques. Be as harsh as ya wanna, need some real feedback, thinking of submitting it for something... Thanks!

I'll take a stab...

Ummm, exposure/focus is all good, skin tones are OK, although the skin looks a little 'processed' to me, possibly because of the contrast between the hairy lower leg, and the totally clean thigh.

The thigh below the elbow has a big patch that is nearly all one tone, like it's dead flat which we know thighs are not. Almost like the shot is taken from under a glass table the person is lying on. (not likely?) Anyway, it attracts the eye a bit much for an un-interesting bit of the shot.

The brighter blue triangle is a little distracting, and the elbow is also a little annoying now that I look at it more. I want to either see more of the arm, or none of it.

The whole thing looks like it's been rotated clockwise a bit as well, as the feel/calves arn't level on the floor/table/chair.

Overall it's a good photo technically, but it dosn't do anything for me asthetically, the pose is OK, but the crop is too harsh maybe... Not sure, just dosn't 'pop'...

I've never shot any 'art', so I'm not an expert, take a surf of the nude stuff on www.photo.net. There are some amazing images on there, which will give you food for thought. Not so many males (I'm assuming this is a guy, appologies to your model if not!) but there are some good ones. Unfortunately in the male nudes there is also some very tacky stuff, so far off the 'art' mark its really not funny.

As always, just my 2c worth...

Cheers, Chris H.

Aero,

A lot depends on what you're submitting it to/for. The overall effect of this image is one of pressure, constriction, containment. The negative space lower left is very powerful in that way. The bright blue upper left and center is, to me, working against this effect.

Ohmark's comments are well-taken. The thigh area is a problem. I'm less concerned with the elbow, kind of like it in fact. I am fascinated by the contrast between the hairy calf and the smooth skin elsewhere.

Just for the heck of it, I've done a quick-and-dirty take on it that eliminates the blue and models the thigh a bit better. I also lightened the foot a tad towards the toes, and toned down the hot spots on the elbow and heel. See the totally different mood?

All in all, an interesting shot. Thanks for sharing.

Robt.

Thanks guys :o) Both replies were helpful. I like the look of the redone photo, I will try processing it more and see what turns out.

Thanks!
