Th only problem I can see is that March can be a tad wet.
If it's P-ing down we will want a warm dry refuge to eat. |

Our best bet would probably be a pub (that serves food) or similar, since that way we can relax with a few beers before heading out... I've no idea which pub would be best tho, esp given the large number of people now coming (15-20 I think).

Pub would be good, yeah.
Or I could suggest Brown's on St Martin's Lane - they have a set menu with quite a lot of choice which is £11 for 2 courses (either starter and main or main and dessert) and includes a variety of meals including salads, steak or chicken, meat pies etc. You can also order off the main menu. Drinks prices are fairly standard London prices... I don't know what beers they do but the biggest advantage is that they definitely take reservations for large groups and that we'd know the price in advance...
Let me know...
PS Agree that relying on the weather in London might not be the best idea... meeting somewhere like this allows us time to decide for definite what we'll do after (incase of weather making previous plans unsuitable) and also means it's easier if anyone is running late as we'll be there a wee while.
We could opt for an early lunch at say 12 noon if people are worried about not having enough photography time...

greetings, all ye brits!
my wonderful wife has agreed to let me go to london to join ya'll, but she has suggested that since i'm going (and since i've never been), i might as well stay a few days. this is all dependent on available floorspace. i will be travelling low to the ground (basically camera and toiletries). i'm not looking for entertainment, just to shoot as absolutely much as possible, and hopefully to be able to spend some time with some of my favorite photographers.
it looks like i can get a flight out fri pm, getting into london around 6:30 am, and then to be able to stay until thurs am. i also hope to make at least a daytrip over to dublin. other than that, it's wide open. i really appreciate any assistance any of ya'll can provide to make this dream a reality!

WOO HOO!
My suggestion would be to go ahead and book the flight - I can't imagine that between us we can't find floor space.
You can stay at mine for a couple of nights, preferable from 7th onwards, as probably have a full house from Fri night to Mon morning...
I'm sure there are lots of folks here who can offer floorspace for the other nights...
I'll add your name to the probable list in the first post, let me know once you're confirmed.

it looks to be about an 1.5 hr flight for about $10-25...priceless when compared to the opportunity to spend anytime shooting around with aznym! |

I'll have to check with my other half (DPC user Eliza), but I would have thought you could stay at ours... here's some photos I've taken in our town in Yorkshire:

Last year, a group of us hired a cottage in Anglesea for New Year's. We had a superb time, helped by the fact that a ferry to Dublin on New Year's day took something like a couple of hours and was really cheap... something like £10 for a return I think. It was nice to have a few Guinesses in Dublin listening to some folk music in atmospheric pubs as an afternoon/evening out from Wales! |

Bob, are you two still staying at ours on the 4th and 5th?
And are you giving lift to Bod and Izzy?

Never knew it was so cheap to go there, I thought it would have to be at least a week holiday to justify the bother of going up. Good to know then :)

i really think the hardest thing for me is to try to keep this within reason and not try to do everything in one trip...
i was referred to ryan air, and have heard about them from other friends who have travelled europe, and ay-yi-yi! i don't know if i'm missing something, but they have a web fair posted at 0.99 gbp!!!
bob, how far is yorkshire from london? i'd love to make that trip. is it something i could work in without putting myself travelling too much? or do i need to start thinking about making this type of trip a habit? |

If you want that ryanair price buy it soon - their promo sales don't usually last more than a couple of weeks. BUT be aware that taxes will be added to that and that you might also be charged a fee for paying by credit card (they'll let you know at some point before you have to hit the Confirm button).
Also don't forget to factor in cost of getting from London to Stansted airport (which can be a PAIN in the butt) and same at other end. Plus the travel time to and from airports and check in time for security checks etc. It may or may not be worth it for one day but more likely worth it if you overnight in Dublin.
:o)

I had a wander around the City yesterday afternoon, just for the fun of it. There are definitely some interesting buildings around there, but it was really quiet, if not dead in most places, and while that's good for building shots it's near useless for any people photos. Probably best to stick to the river and the major sites, since there'll be plenty of tourists around those, which should mean good candids etc.

Sorry, I didn't see this post... It's about 2 1/2 hours from London by train, but you really need a car to make the most of a visit once you're in most places in England outside of London... public transport isn't great in most places. I can work out an itinerary for you if you decide how long you're going to stay, and I can try and put some time aside to show you some good places. It's not somewhere you can do in a day though really... and it can be a bit frustrating if the weather isn't on your side. |

That is brilliant!
I have to tell you not to miss Hampton Court... my personal pick for my favourite tourist thing to do in England. You can't take photos inside, but to visit the place where so much intriguing history took place is quite something. It's absolutely sumptous as well, and the gardens are incredible. |
